5 Tips to Keep Your Home Décor Fresh for Years to Come
It’s difficult to keep up with the latest trends in home décor since each year brings new surprises. This year, why not opt for classic, timeless style into of the most recent fad or the latest and greatest gadget? If you want to ensure that your home décor style stays fresh for years to come, here are 5 design tips you need to follow!
- Less is always more.
Regardless of what year it is, minimalism always reigns supreme. The less crowded the tables and shelves are in your home, the better they will look. (And the less you’ll be required to dust!) The same principle applies to the layout of each room in your home. Select furniture that is proportional to the size of the room it is placed in. Similarly, an ethanol or electric fireplace offers the same benefits as a traditional fireplace, but since they are available in a wide range of designs and sizes, it is easy to find one that is proportional to the size of your room. This will ensure that your space does not look overcrowded.
- Accent colors never go out of style.
Fashionable colors change from one season to the next, but in order for a room to truly pop, it will always need a bit of color. Instead of painting your living room fire engine red or buying an aquamarine couch, choose simple accessories, such as vases, artwork, throw pillows, or even rugs, in bold, vibrant accent shades. These accessories are easy to change out as needed.
- Function should come before form.
We understand that that octagonal chair with the bucket seat looks stunning in the magazine, but are you going to be able to sit comfortably in it? Don’t buy furniture that you aren’t going to be able to comfortably use. The same goes for decorative shelves that don’t offer adequate storage space and glass coffee tables that have the potential to break. Invest in furniture that is meant to be used – rather than just admired.
- Comfort is king.
Just like its counterpart function, comfort is one of the most important factors to consider when you are buying furniture. It’s not considered classic design if you must replace your couch because you can’t comfortably stretch out and relax on it. While you want to buy something that looks good, you should also buy something that feels good too.
- Quality is always more important than quantity.
Finally, just because your room has shelves in it, this does not mean that the shelves need to be overflowing. Likewise, neither should every square inch of your walls be covered in photos or artwork. Choose your accessories and art wisely. When shopping for pieces, look for quality and uniqueness instead of just buying any old thing to put on your walls.
